5 effective habits I’ve maintained after becoming a successful entrepreneur

No joke, entrepreneurship is a challenging yet rewarding journey. It requires hard work, perseverance, and a willingness to take risks. While there is no one-size-fits-all formula for success, there are certain habits that I’ve been practicing for along time now and that many successful entrepreneurs also do.

Here are my five most easy and effective habits that can help you on your path to become a successful entrepreneur.

1. I’m constantly learning, always seeking new knowledge and skills to help me grow not only my business but also my expertise as a leader and entrepreneur. I do it with more traditional ways like reading books and news, attending conferences, listening to podcasts and exchanging advices with other successful entrepreneurs. But I also initiate new projects and try things I’ve never done before. I simply never stay in my comfort zone. Most importantly I keep in mind that everything I do, even when it’s not directly related to business, helps me develop new skills, explore new areas of interest and spark creativity. Listening to people is also a great ways of learning, everyone has something to teach us we just need to be open minded and attentive. It’s a good idea to invest in ongoing learning for your team too.

2. I stay focused on my goals. Sometimes, things don’t work out but by having a clear plan I can always see the big picture and stay focused on my main goal. I keep a clear vision of what I want to achieve, I set a mindset and stick to it. For exemple, when I acquired Gould Industries I wanted to transform this small local manufacturer into a large corporation. I then broke down my goal into required actions and manageable tasks. This way I could stay committed to completing them. It took me about 5 years to achieve my goal, I never gave up !

3. I stay adaptable. I can comfortably adapt to changing circumstances and pivot when necessary. I’m not afraid to change course if a strategy or idea is not working. Being flexible in order to respond to changes in the market and meet the evolving needs of your customers is a must as an entrepreneur. You always have to be looking for new opportunities by keeping an eye on trends, embracing innovation, foster a culture of experimentation in your team and listen to your customers feedbacks.

4. I take calculated risks. I’m not reckless, but I’m willing to take calculated risks to achieve my goals. I take time to assess the potential risks and rewards of each decision. I gather as much information as possible, including potential benefits and drawbacks. I consider the best-case, worst-case, and most likely outcomes of taking that risk. I think about how I can handle each scenario, and what resources I would need to do so. If I go for it I keep in mind a backup plan because even if you take calculated risks, there is always a chance that things may not go as planned. A backup plan will help you mitigate the negative impacts of a failed risk.

5. I stay resilient and get back quickly on my feet. As an entrepreneurs I had to understand that failure is part of the journey, and that the faster i’m able to bounce back from setbacks and keep moving forward the faster I can achieve my goals. First, it was obviously hard because there is ego but by learning from my mentors I managed to work on seeing failures as opportunities to learn and adapt. You’re always a ‘’no away’’ from a yes.

Remember that becoming a successful entrepreneur requires discipline, focus, and a willingness to develop effective habits that can help you achieve your goals. By adopting these five easy habits and by maintaining a healthy work-life balance you will have better chances of achieving success in all aspects of your life. They may not always come easily, but with practice and commitment, they can become second nature. Keep in mind that success is not just about what you achieve, but also about how you achieve it, and the habits you develop along the way can have a significant impact.

Good luck and never give up !
